An Indian woman who was savagely attacked by two men who poured acid on her face has now married the "love of her life."
26-year-old Kavita Baruni, who is from Uttar Pradesh in northern India, married 27-year-old Nitesh Verma on April 17.
Nitesh stood by her through the long period of treatment for her facial disfigurement caused by the acid attack, which she says was instigated by a jealous man she had rejected.

Speaking to a local news outlet, Kavita said: "It was the best day of my life. I’ve never felt so blessed. I married the man I have always loved and there’s no better feeling than that."
She continued: "My attacker believed my life was ruined and no one would marry me but my husband never left my side and supported me throughout. I cannot ever thank him enough."

Two men attacked Kavita in June 2012 after she started her relationship with Nitesh, who was also her colleague at work. One of the men was Saif, 25, whose advances she had rejected.

Kavita had to go through a long period of treatment that involved three facial reconstructive surgeries. She also sought justice against Saif against her family's wishes. Her family eventually disowned her.

Despite his crime, Saif only spent 11 months in jail and even kept threatening Kavita after he was released on bond. She is still pursuing the case in court.
However, she is thankful for her husband's support, saying: "My husband has supported me always and he supported me with this decision also. I really do not know where I’d be without him."

She regrets the absence of her parents at her wedding, adding: "I still miss them. I wish I had their blessings in life but I have no regrets about my decision."
Kavita urges victims of similar attacks to stand firm for their rights: "Many victims like me feel they want to die. That they can never marry. But we are not the criminals. We are the victim."
