A high school student from Aisha City in Tanzania built a solar-powered robot. He presented an attractive middle-sized machine with legs and arms.
The device can walk and turn its head. It can also sing and say a few pre-recorded phrases. Gracious Ephraim, who studies at Ilboru High School in the Form six level, used an aluminium box, wire, metal and tin pieces to construct the robot. He also introduced a memory chip to function as a brain.

The moving machine cost about N27200 -or US $89- to build the robot, according to a local newspaper. It took Ephraim about one year to complete it.
Ephraim paid all the materials by himself. Yet he is already planning his next project: a robot that can solve problems.

“Tanzania aims at industrialization, which means factories and other production lines must work 24 hours. But, humans cannot work around the clock," Ephraim said, adding that he envisages “to have robots working at night and people during the day. This will also reduce the cost of paying workers overtime”.
The Robotics program in which Ephraim built his device was organized by E3-Empower Africa, a Korean organization.
