For five months since her daughter's disappearance in October 2016, Gloria Sibuye, 42, has been driving six hours every week from her home in Mpumalanga province to Johannesburg to push police to solve the case.

Her daughter, 23-year-old Linda Matati, disappeared after Gloria dropped her off at a friend's house for a party in a Johannesburg suburb. She was a student at the University of South Africa.

Her tenacity soon led to the identification of Thabo Mosia as the man last seen with Linda on December 8 last year. Gloria personally confronted Thabo and police arrested him on March 11. Thabo was later found to have a long track record of criminal activities.

Based on the evidence of the State witness as well as Thabo's alleged confession to the police that he had killed Linda and dumped her body in an open field near a major Johannesburg highway, police charged Thabo with the murder of Linda.

Thabo led police to the scene where he said he had dumped the body, and police recovered a body that was burnt beyond recognition but is yet to be identified.

Speaking to a local media outlet, Gloria expressed her anguish and determination to find out the fate of her daughter, insisting that she could not give up even when police were initially uncooperative.

She said: "I didn’t give up. I couldn’t give up. I would drive every weekend after work to check with the police. I wanted action. I wanted my child found, and I was going to make sure that the police are just as determined to help."

She added that she wants an identification of the body so she can have closure. Watch a video report of the case below.
