Meet big-hearted musician who plays music at hospitals to soothe patients (photos, video)
- Young musician Mutinda Muteti performs for hospital patients in order to soothe them
- He chose not to seek fame with his talent but to make a difference in the lives of people
- He is encouraged when he sees smiles on patients' faces, knowing he has touched them positively
25-year-old Mutinda Muteti isn't your typical musician. This is because he doesn't perform at large concerts full of raucous partygoers but at much smaller settings—hospital rooms holding patients in need of some encouragement.
Speaking during a recent media interview, Mutinda said when he discovered his talent, he hesitated to follow what every budding musician does—look for a recording deal and fame.
The one-man guitarist and singer added that a friend suggested he should perform at a hospital and he gave it a try. However, the painful conditions of the patients on the first day made his first experience a difficult one.
Nevertheless, when he returned the next day, Mutinda said the patients received him well and were happy to see him. This positive reception and the fact that he had soothed them through their pain made him happy, and since then he has been playing regularly at the Nairobi Women's Hospital.

Mutinda also said that he has big plans for the future: "I'm trying to put a base for music therapy in the country. Hopefully one day we shall have a music therapy centre where it's all about music being used to help the healing process."
