An angry mother decided to teach her 13-year-old daughter a lesson by pouring hot soup on her for sleeping in her neighbour's house after she locked her out.

According to reports, a middle-aged woman identified as Tricia Oterneghoro, poured hot soup on her daughter for disobeying her and sleeping in her neighbour's house.
According to 13-year-old Joyce Emmanuel, her mother had poured soup on her because she had gone to their neighbour's house to sleep after she locked her out for insisting she was going outside to have a night bath.
She said:
“It was evening and I said I want to take my bath but my mummy said no. I went out to take my bath and my mummy locked the door. After knocking many times, I went to sleep in my friend’s house. In the morning, my mummy came and poured hot soup on my body.”

According to one of the neighbours who ran to Joyce's aid after her mother's assault, they have always had to warn Tricia against maltreating her daughter. They said:
“A woman with correct sense will not do this to her daughter. I have warned her not to beat the girl again. Her father called yesterday and the girl said she was interested in going to nursing school.”
Admitting to her mistake, Tricia said she didn't know what caused her to react in the manner she did, adding that she had earlier warned her neighbours to stop allowing Joyce sleep in their rooms.
