The entire community of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has been thrown into a state of mourning after two 300-level students of the prestigious university drowned in a fish pond during their entrepreneurial training.

The two students were identified as Olabiyi Emmanuel of the department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (AEE) and Olokun Babtunde Alex in Project Management Technology (PMT).

According to the statement issued by the school’s student union president and PRO, the incident happened at the Fishery and Aquaculture pond located behind Great Hall in Obakekere.

After the training, four students decided to take a selfie on the canoe. While at it, the canoe capsized and they drowned. However, two of the students were able to swim thus, they swam to safety while the other two drowned before they were helped.
