- The deceased, Maxwell Mahama, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, is said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday, May 29, when some angry youth of the town attacked him, allegedly on suspicion of being an armed robber
You may recall that NAIJ.com had earlier reported that a Ghanaian soldier, Maxwell Mahama, was killed after some residents mistook him for an armed robber.
The gruesome murder of Major Maxwell Mahama by some residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region will be a dent on the mind of Ghanaians for a very long time.
Mahama who was commander in charge of a military detachment at Diaso, a suburb close to Denkyira Obuasi was lynched because he was mistaken for an armed robber.
The unfortunate incident happened on May 29, 2017. Major Mahama has since been buried at the military cemetery at Osu in Accra.

But following interrogation and investigations by the police 26 out of the 56 suspects have been arraigned before a district court in Accra.
Meanwhile, police have so far arrested about 56 people in connection to the lynching of the soldier.
The suspects, men and women were pictured close to tears when they arrived in court in a huge blue van.

The accused persons are being charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
