Nigeria's new mega party, APDA, four other parties receives certificates of registration (photos)

- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates to the five newly-registered political parties

- The commission on Wednesday, June 7, announced the registration of five new political parties

- Ahead of the next general elections Nigeria now has 45 active registered political parties

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, June 16, presented certificates to the five newly-registered political parties.

NAIJ.com gathered that the commission on Wednesday, June 7, announced the registration of five new political parties.

The new political parties are Young Progressive Party (YPP), Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), New Generation Party of Nigeria (NGP), All Democratic Peoples Movement (ADPM) and Action Democratic Party (ADP).

This brings to 45, the number of registered political parties in the country.

INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, while presenting the certificates said: '' I want to assure the five new political parties that from today, you have equal status with all other political parties in Nigeria and you are no longer political parties but registered political parties.

The Commission will extend to you all rights and priviledges of recognised political parties under the Constitution, the Electoral Act as well as our regulations and guidelines''

NAIJ.com had attended the launch of one of the newly registered political parties, APDA on Monday, June 5.

At the launch, the party promised that it will constitutionally reserve 30% slot for women, 25% for youths and 5% for people living with disabilities.

A chieftain of the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu announced on Monday, June 5, that the party will carry along all segments of the society in its dealings.
