- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it has been inundated with calls from its members and well-meaning Nigerians over the incident
- It urged Nigerians to continue to support a viral opposition for the country but disowned the newly launched political party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Senator Ahmed Makarfi has reacted to the formation of a new political party by some of its chieftains.

Hours after the party was officially launched in Abuja, the PDP released a statement through Dayo Adeyeye, its spokesperson, saying it is not part of the new formation.
In the statement obtained by NAIJ.com, the party said: In the last few hours, we have received numerous calls from our party members, concerned citizens and well-wishers on our association or otherwise with the Advance Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) which was unveiled today at Abuja.
The PDP said: “For the avoidance of doubt, we reiterate once again that we are not in any way associated with the new party in any form or guise.
“The APDA is neither an offshoot of the PDP nor its alter ego as some are speculating.

“This statement is made purely to set the records straight and to avoid unnecessary innuendos, speculations and ambiguity that may threaten the continued unity and solidarity of our party members.”
The party thanked millions of well-meaning Nigerians for their concern and commitment to the defence of the country’s democracy.
“In the end, this democracy cannot survive without a strong and vibrant opposition,” the statement said.
In a related event, a former ambassador to Canada and governorship aspirant in Ekiti state, Amb Dare Bejide, has said the Peoples Democratic Party will take over Nigeria once again.
Bejide says contrary to the position of those he described as ‘prophets of doom’, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) will not go into extinction if Senator Ali Modu Sheriff wins at the supreme court. Bejide says the party will begin to wax stronger after the judgement, saying those predicting doom days will be put to shame in the end.
In any election held between Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, who do you think would win? This is the question this NAIJ.com video seems to resolve:
