APC chieftain raises alarm over Amaechi's sacking of party leaders in Rivers state
- The center can no longer hold in the Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
- The battle of wits between the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe has taken center stage
- A chieftain of the party warns that the issue might escalate and destroy the party
A chieftain of the APC, Comrade Timi Frank has warned that if nothing is done urgently to resolve the ongoing disagreement between Amaechi and Senator Abe, it might spell doom for the party in River state.
Comrade Frank was reacting to the bickering between both men and their supporters over the 2019 governorship election.
Media reports had revealed that Amaechi sacked loyalists of Senator Abe in the party recently to exert his influence on the state chapter of the party.

Amaechi's decision was due to the senator's insistence on contesting for the governorship election despite the minister's unfavourable disposition towards the lawmaker's ambition.
Comrade Frank, while calling on APC national leaders to urgently resolve the impasse, said the issue might be a repeat of the Kogi state experience if the crisis is not nipped in the bud.
“Our leaders need to be proactive in resolving some of these crises. What is happening in Kogi, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Kano and many other states today is as a result of lack of capacity by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) under Chief John Oyegun, which I have always warned about.
“That of Kogi state has started claiming lives of people we will need their votes tomorrow. Therefore, Rivers state should not join the league of crisis bedeviled APC state chapters when we urgently call the political gladiators involve to order,” Frank said in a statement sent to NAIJ.com.
Comrade Frank urged Ameachi who is the leader of APC in Rivers state to allow internal democracy to thrive and follow due process if any of the caucus member is to be removed adding that, “the era of imposition is far gone.”
“I believe that it is only God that can give power and not man, despite the power tussles. The imposition that has destroyed other parties should not be allowed in APC, not only in Rivers but across the country, the popular candidate must be allowed to fly our flag if we are truly practicing democracy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Engineer Segun Oni, a former governor of Ekiti state has joined the state’s governorship race billed for 2018.
Ife Arowosoge, director general of the Segun Oni Campaign Organisation, disclosed this on Thursday, June 15, at the maiden meeting of APC leaders in the state.
He said the former governor would make an open declaration of his intention later in July.
