A Ugandan woman has taken the brave step of sharing her HIV-positive status on social media.
22-year-old Sarah Aporo posted a video of herself taking antiretroviral drugs on Facebook recently. Afterwards, she held an interview with an NTV Uganda reporter to share her experience.
Sarah said she took the step with the hope that her experience would enlighten other young people to take extra precautions in their relationships.

She said she and her boyfriend had abstained from physical intimacy for a year after starting their relationship.
She added that she had tested negative as recently as November 2016. When they decided it was finally time to engage in intimacy, she believed her boyfriend too was HIV-negative.

Sarah hopes her experience with enlighten young women to take extra precautions
However, she was shocked to test positive in January this year. When she asked her boyfriend to test, he was positive too.
Sarah then realized that she had made a mistake by trusting her boyfriend during the one year she had abstained while under the impression that he was abstaining too.

However, she soon accepted her status and informed her family and friends. She also began looking after her health and taking ARVs.
She advised couples to take HIV tests together at all times, even when they trust each other.
