16-year-old girl with African roots dazzles Britain's Got Talent show in semi-final performance (photos, video)

- Sarah Ikumu has Kenyan parents

- She delivered a phenomenal performance in a rendition of Purple Rain

- A judge said she's the best the show has ever seen

Ikumu sang a memorable rendition of Prince's Purple Rain and absolutely swept the judges and audience off their feet.

The judges so highly regarded her talent that they gave her a direct entry into the show's semifinals. And when she finally performed on Wednesday, May 31, it was something to behold.

One of the judges, Simon Cowell, told Ikumu: “I would say in all the years we’ve done Britain’s Got Talent, you are the best singer who has ever come on.”

Another one, David Williamson, said: “That was so extraordinary. You took an iconic song by an iconic artist and put your spin on it. I think the competition might as well go home now.”

All the judges were impressed

Ikumu's parents are Kenyan immigrants in the UK who settled in Milton Keynes. Her pastor father, Alex Gatoto, encouraged her to sing from an early age.

Her performance in the auditions in April earned her a rare golden buzzer from judge Cowell. According to The Sun, all of Cowell's golden buzzer performers have gone on to the show's final.
