This woman graduates from college despite growing up in foster care

A US woman has shared her inspiring graduation story that details how she overcame the odds to earn her college degree.

Raven Quattlebaum shared her story on the Facebook page of Because of Them We Can, an initiative that celebrates black excellence and achievement in the US.

She said that both her parents never received high school diplomas and that she had to grow up in foster care.

Raven added that growing up in foster care meant having to move from home to home and school to school.

She said most foster care do not make it to college because of their frequent movements that do not allow them to settle down.

Furthermore, when she finally started living on her own at the age of 21, she had to hold a night job to support herself and her studies.

She wrote: "I was labeled as at-risk and battled with depression, which at times made life much harder. Many doubted me and said that I would not make it."

Against all odds, however, she has graduated from Bennett College in North Carolina. Her story inspired many commenters who congratulated her and praised her resolve to earn her degree.

One commenter, Ella Davis, wrote: "Congratulation, so proud of you young lady. I pray that God will continue to bless you mighty. Stay close to God, pray always."

Star Dunn wrote: "God was just making you stronger. Your TEST-imony was to prepare you for this moment and your future. Congratulations and I salute your perseverance."
