Graduation ceremonies are often emotional moments, but for a graduating woman in the US, it was particularly so.
Writing on Because of Them We Can Facebook page, the woman named Skye Warren paid a touching tribute to her mother for giving her the belief that she could graduate from the Spelman College — with distinction.
Skye started off by saying: "If it were not for my mother, I wouldn't be here." She accompanied her tribute with an emotional video of her hugging her mother during the graduation.
Skye wrote that her mother sat her down in 2012 and encouraged her to join Spelman: "Society needs to see you as the strong Black woman you are destined to be. I couldn't provide that for you, but Spelman can. This is where I need you to be."
She added that following the talk, she was able to overcome her doubts and gain confidence to join the prestigious college.

It was an emotional scene as Skye Warren graduated
Skye concluded: "And here we are, 4 years later and I'm graduating from THE Illustrious, Spelman College, [with distinction]. This dream came true... this is my reality. I am a PROUD Spelman Alumna, glory be to God."

What an incredible inspiration Skye's mother is! Many commenters were also touched. Ebony Winn said: "Beautiful! What a great and encouraging mom she has. She looked past what she may have seen for herself and pointed her baby in the direction that she felt would be best for her."
