An 85-year-old Nepalese man has passed away while trying to reclaim a record he held previously as the world's oldest man to climb Mount Everest.
It is believed that Min Bahadur Sherchan suffered a suspected heart attack at the world's tallest mountain's base camp on Saturday, May 6.
However, the cause of his death has not been officially confirmed, as results of postmortem tests are still awaited.
Upon commencing his climb, Sherchan had reportedly said: "I will either come back dead, or I will successfully ascend the Mount Everest."
In 2008 he became the world's oldest climber to have scaled the mountain, aged 76.

Local authorities flew Sherchan's body by helicopter to Kathmandu on Sunday, May 7. A funeral was held and his body cremated later on the same day.
Following Sherchan's passing, the Nepalese government has been urged to set an age limit for older climbers. Currently, there is only a minimum age limit of 16 years.
Ang Tshering, spokesperson of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, said: "It is very necessary to immediately bring that age limit law. If there had been a limit, the loss of his life could have been prevented."
