Political tornado hits Anambra, as 3,000 PDP, APC members defect to APGA

- About 3000 thousand converts have been added to the fold of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra state

- The defectors are said to be former members of the APC and PDP

- The defection took place in Ugbene community, Awka North Local Government Area

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ugbene community, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state, has welcomed into its fold, 3000 persons defecting from other parties.

NAIJ.com gathered that the defectors were from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to sources, the defection took place on Monday, May 22.

The defectors, led by the National Chairman of Ugbene Great Ambassadors Club, Chief Aaron Onwelukwue, disclosed that their defection was informed by Governor Willie Obiano’s “sterling performance in office” which they crave its continuity.

The APC has sworn to oust the ruling APGA from the helms of affairs in Anambra state

Special Adviser to the governor on security matters, Chief Chikodi Anara, and Chairman of APGA in the community, Mr. Cajethan Anako, while receiving the defectors pointed out that the people of the area had made informed choice by joining the party.

He described APGA as a movement which all well-meaning Igbo men should identify with.

“Governor Obiano is embarking on long term investment for the future of our children. So, Ugbene people have taken the right decision to join APGA,” Anara said.

Meanwhile, the APC is plotting to takeover the helms of affairs in Anambra state.

This much was disclosed by the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha.

Owelle Rochas Okorocha boasted that nothing would stop the APC, from taking over Anambra state in the November 18, 2017 governorship poll.

NAIJ.com gathered that Okorocha urged the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano to start writing his handover note to an APC governor.

Okorocha, who spoke through Dr Simon Nwulu while inaugurating the Rochas Peoples Movement (RPM) in Anambra state, said the main objective of the movement was to register grassroots presence in every nook and cranny of the state.

He said: “The Igbo can no longer belong to regional political parties. We must belong to the mainstream. APC is that place to belong".
