Meet Ikumapayi Sodiq, a graduate of LASU who has gone into full time BARBING (photos)

The social media world was set on fire after the humble plea of a striving Nigerian barber became a public post. The young man simply wanted his post to be retweeted in order for people who might be in need of his services to reach him.

What started as a humble plea eventually became a viral sensation after people saw how talented the Nigerian barber is. NAIJ.com recently made a report about the young barber when he asked people to help promote his brand and how it yielded results.

Up until the time NAIJ.com had an exclusive chat with him, the young barber remained Hakasas to people who know him from afar.

NAIJ.com correspondent got in touch with him and asked him to share his story with the world. The young man in his twenties revealed he was born in Lagos even though he is from Ogun state.

Could you please tell us about yourself?

My name is Ikumapayi Sodiq, I am popularly known as Saygo. I come from the family of four of which I happen to be the last born. I graduated from Lagos State University (LASU) where I studied computer science. My hobbies include watching movies, playing football and listening to music.

How long have you been barbing?

I have been barbing since I was in secondary school.

What prompted you into doing it in the first place?

I have a brother who was into barbing and since I have been going to him, I felt I could barb too that was how it all started.

Sodiq is a dedicated barber who gives his work a lot of attention.

How have you been able to reach out to people on your business?

I have been able to reach out to them through my handwork on people. I also use post bill, I inform people too by telling them physically. I have been advertising on the social media platform.

How would you rate the reception of people since you began the awareness?

I would rate the reception of people since I started this awareness by 80 percent.

Has the business being yielding profit, what major progress have you recorded since you started?

Yielding profit, yes it has. The major major progress is confidential.

What was your ambition while growing up?

My ambition is to be successful.

Has anything changed about it?

No, nothing changed... it has not.

Keeping customers happy is what gives him joy.

What motivates you to continue doing what you are doing?

What keeps me going is that I love doing what I do and I believe I can still do better

Focus is a watchword Sodiq operates with.

What major challenges have you tried to overcome since you began?

Speaking on the challenges, some clients are disappointing in terms of agreements of payments. Another challenge I face is when the power supply is cut off while barbing. Sometimes, the generator may refuse to work too. This affects my work flow.

How supportive have your parents been since you started?

Yes, they have been very supportive. My advice is that other parents should allow their children learn vocational skills because it helps a lot because it helps them show their talents. This way, parents also get to know what the children can do. Their personality can also be known through this.
