Ex-VP Atiku Abubakar reportedly in a fix over Osinbajo’s sterling performance

- Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria's former vice president, continues to prepare to take over the mantle of leadership in 2019

- The former VP is however confronted by two major issues tied together and these have to do with Professor Yemi Osinbajo and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is said to be in a fix over the successes achieved so far by Nigeria’s acting president, Yemi Osinbajo ahead of the 2019 general election.

Atiku, it was learnt, has been making serious moves to take over as president in 2019 after many major defeats in the past.

NAIJ.com further learnt that the former vice president had engaged in negotiations with top leaders across the country, but did not factor the Osinbajo angle into his calculation.

Atiku’s dilemma is coming at a period some northern elders insist that the region must produce the country’s president in 2019 in the event that President Muhammadu Buhari is unable to continue in office.

The New Telegraph quoted a source close to Atiku as the unforeseen competition with Osinbajo has pitched the former vice president against the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

That, it was gathered, also put a strain in Atiku’s relationship with the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The source said: “Asiwaju and Atiku were on the same chapter up till the time Buhari travelled in January.

“But the way the media was hyping Osinbajo in acting capacity made Atiku to wonder if Tinubu was not preparing Osinbajo up for 2019.

“I must be frank with you, since that time, Atiku has been viewing them with suspicion.

“There is no open war really, but the trust is not much between them. Atiku feels that his ambition may be truncated by the Osinbajo/ Tinubu moves.”

Meanwhile, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has continued to receive former big shots of the Peoples Democratic Party (DP) into its fold.

One of such is Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of State for Defence and former governorship aspirant for Lagos state.
