The young lady was said to have been diagnosed with cancer earlier and she had found it hard to come to terms with the diagnosis. Thus, she left her family members a note telling them about what she intended to do.

It was gathered that her family members had been looking for her since the day she left the house. They filed a report at the police station and were told to wait for forty eight hours. Skeptical about her safety and what she could do to herself, her family members carried on with the search.

They searched round the Hillside Dams which was said to be her favorite sot but could not find her. It was until the man reported the body that they knew for sure that she had gone through with her plan. According to reports, they found a string of stones tied around her neck.

A family member who claimed to be her uncle confirmed that she had been missing since on Thursday, May 11. The police were involved even though they implored them to wait for a while.

She left a suicide note saying we should look for her at Hillside Dams. We are shocked and devastated as a family because she was almost done with her studies and she did not seem like a troubled person. We are waiting for a post mortem report because we strongly suspect foul play,” said the uncle.

Assistant Inspector Abednico Ncube , a spokesperson of the Bulawayo Police confirmed the incident.

We received information on a sudden death by drowning at Hillside dams. We identified the deceased as a 23-year-old female Hillside Teachers’ College student,” said Asst Insp Ncube.

Some people said the young lady was yet to come to terms with her health issue. A family member who wanted to be identified as Fiso shared a different thought on the whole issue. Fiso who said she was the late girl’s aunt was embittered about the way the police handled the case.

She said the police might have been able to save the girl’s life if they had taken immediate action when they were notified.

We accept that our daughter is dead, however we are disappointed at the treatment that we received from Hillside Police Station.

“We told them about the suicide note and that Nokulunga said we would find her at the dam.

“They told us there was nothing they could do and we should return to the station after two days. They told us to tell them when we heard that a body had been found,” said Fiso
