Why PDP remains Nigeria’s only hope - Jonathan

Goodluck Jonathan has begged PDP members to bury their differences.

Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the only hope for the country.

Jonathan has also stated that Nigerians still believe in the former ruling party.

The former president made the statement on Thursday, April 6, during the PDP stakeholders meeting in Abuja, The Punch reports.

He begged PDP members to bury their differences in order to end the crisis bedeviling the party.

Jonathan urged members of the party not to insult and blame each other anymore, noting that the PDP remains a light in democratic governance.

“We shall overcome the challenges and I can assure you that the PDP will rise again,” he said.

As at the time of publishing this report, NAIJ.com learnt that some of those at the meeting are Senator Ahmed Makarfi, deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu; Uche Secondus, Prof Wale Oladipo, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, chairman of the party’s board of trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin.

Others are national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Jonathan invited the warring factions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a round table discussion.

The Guardian reports that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarfi were summoned by Jonathan to a meeting at his residence in Abuja.

The meeting was confirmed by Prince Dayo Adeyeye, the spokesman of the Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee on Wednesday, April 5.

He said the caretaker committee members would attend the meeting being put together by the immediate past Nigerian leader.
