They say 'what a man can do, a woman can do it better' this woman has just proven that saying to be true by achieving such a great academic feat.

NAIJ.com gathered that Mrs Etse Odiete, a mother of three children, defied the odds and rigors of motherhood, to finish with a first class degree. Speaking in an exclusive interview with THE NATION, the 'super mom' revealed how she got to where she is today.

Even though she 'wasted' three years at home before gaining admission into the Delta state Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, she continued to yearn for a university degree.

The graduate of Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta state, had already spent three years at home while also waiting for admission into the university, bringing the years she spent at home to a total of 6 years.

The 'super mom' got married while in her 400level at the university, and welcomed her first child almost immediately. By the time she was writing her final exams, she was already 7-months pregnant with her second child.

Speaking to The Nation on what motivated her, she said:

"I have always desired to graduate with a first class, having stayed at home for a very long time. Three years before gaining admission into polytechnic and another three years after poly. A total of six years and as at this time, my mates were already graduates , so I made up my mind that I can't go to school late and graduate with just any result."

"When I gained admission, I knew the journey has started and it all depends solely on me. I was fed with the idea that first class graduates don't search for jobs."

When asked how she managed to combine raising her family with studying, she said:

"It was not easy but I had to a lot of support from my darling husband, my mom (my rock), my sibling, my husband's family and my friends at school.

When I had my first baby (Ella) my mother-in-law stayed with us for several months till my sister-in-law gave birth, so she had to leave to take care of her and my mom took over. She took Ella with her to school when I had lectures and the days she couldn't, I had to take Ella with me to school. At such times, some of my friends who are done with their class or free at the time helped in taking care of her. Even my lecturer's wife who was also a staff helped in caring for her."

Etse also had words of praise for her husband who she said helped her through somewhat difficult times. She said:

"There were days we had to drink tea to bed because I was so tired and other times he had to cook for the family, most especially during my exams. He even took his annual leave just to take care of Ella during my final exams and project works."

She advised undergraduates, saying:

"Have a desire, it all starts with a dream because you need to first create a mental picture and follow it up with action in the face of financial, emotional and environmental challenges.

I say this because there are issues that can easily change your dream. I was not a book person because while in school I got married, I went for parties, shows, school functions e.t.c, but I knew what to do for lost times.

You have to be determined no matter what you encounter...also create a reading time. You have to understand the kind of person you are."
