A 93-year-old Ethiopian nun has become quite famous due to her special talents as composer and pianist.
Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou lives in Jersusalem, where she forms part of an Orthodox church, after she fled her native country of Ethiopia in 1984.
Guèbrou started her musical education when she was six years old. Being part of a well-off family, she was sent to a boarding school in Switzerland to study violin, and then returned to her country in 1933.

During the Second Italio-Ethiopian War, which lasted from 1934 to 1936, she and her family were prisoners. After the conflict ended, she continued her training.

When Guèbrou turned 19, she decided to become a nun. A few years later, she started focusing on the study of religious Ethiopean Orthodox Church music.
Guèbrou, who can speak seven languages, has released several albums, and is still active at her piano.
