A woman in Florida, US, was eight and a half months pregnant when her apartment caught fire.

Fortunately, Nicola Taylor was able to exit her apartment and call in firefighters who managed to put out the fire.

However, she had lost everything, including gifts from a baby shower just two days earlier, and had no place to stay.

Understanding her predicament, the firefighters, together with the Lauderhill Fire Department in Florida, organized a surprise baby shower for Nicola on Wednesday, April 19.

They presented her with dozens of gifts to make up for what she lost in the fire.

Nicola was deeply thankful for the kind gesture, saying: “God is amazing. This is more stuff than I had. Thank you.”

The firefighters were not done, however. They presented her with the biggest gift—keys to a new apartment that they had fundraised online to lease for her.

The Captain of the fire department, Gerry Gonzalez, said: “The members of the fire department, the community, the people have donated. We were able to get you a new lease, a new apartment. We’ve covered your deposit and a few months rent.”

In response, Nicola said: "There’s no words to describe it. My dad, he cried. That explains it all. I never see my dad in tears. I would like to tell the fire department, ‘Thank you.’ I would like to say [to] everybody who donated, ‘Thank you, and thanks for the well wishes.'”
