Festus Okoh, who represents Ikah South state constituency, won the house of the assembly seat in 2015 under the platform of the Accord Party. He was the minority leader of the house from June 2015 when they were sworn in till today when they defected to the ruling PDP in the state.

Their notice of defection was formally read on the floor of the house by Speaker of the state house of assembly, Monday Igbuya.

The notice indicated that they defected following irreconcilable crisis rocking the national leadership of the Labour Party which has caused division in the party.

They said the crisis had led to different factions within the party's national working committee and national executive council thereby rendering the party ineffective.

The lawmakers noted that their decision to defect was borne out of wide consultations with their constituents and leaders on whose mandate they were elected into the house.

The three lawmakers said they could no longer remain in the party, stressing that they were defecting with their teeming supporters from their constituencies.

NAIJ.com can report that the wave of defections is not unconnected with the return of Ibori to the state. This is because Ibori is seen as the political godfather of the state, consequently, any party he joins, his followers have no choice but to dance to his music.

It is believed that anybody who flouts Ibori’s political directive may as well have counted himself out of the politics of the state.

Following the defection of the three members, the state house of assembly now has 27 PDP members, one opposition SDP with one constituency vacant as the representative, Omawumi Udoh, is dead.
