Even at 0ver 70, Buhari is as strong as the average Nigerian – Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state may have thrown up a new controversy by claiming President Muhammadu Buhari is as strong as any other Nigerian even at over 70 years old.

The president resumed on Monday, March 13, 2017 after 52 days in London where he was being attended to by his doctors.

Upon his return, the president told Nigerians that he was better but would still be visiting London for medical attention.

Immediately after he won the election against Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015, Buhari had reportedly said he would be hindered to an extent by his age as he would not be able to do the much he would have done as a younger man.

But the Vanguard reports that speaking through his commissioner for Information, Mr Obinna Nshirim, on Monday, same day Buhari resumed, Okorocha slammed Christian leaders for carrying wrong information and prophecy against Buhari.

He also said the president was strong and that he is full of the right ideas to turn the country around.

Speaking during a radio programme in Owerri, he was quoted as saying: “If Buhari should succeed and God will help him to succeed in righting the wrongs, in changing the psyche of our people, in bringing those desired change, then these people, their reputation will go down and down to the bottom.

“So the best thing that can happen today is anything bad happening to Buhari…They will now come to tell you: ‘See, God does not lie, we told you he took something that does not belong to him.

“Buhari at seventy something…is Buhari not as strong as you are? The important one is that he came with something special.

“And as one time head of state who does not own an oil bloc, who does not own an upstairs in his name, he is something special.”

While slamming the churches for allegedly spreading falsehood against the president and the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor was further quoted to have said through Nshirim: “It is wickedness when religion supports wishing your brother dead. It is idleness and also bitterness rather than accepting that you made a mistake so that you start to correct yourself.

“You know that one lie leads to another. That is why it is cheaper to tell the truth and face the consequences initially.

“You lost an election, you should accept that you made a mistake but those who misled us especially the churches…they told us APC is Muslim party. APC is Boko Haram.

“They would not watch us blame them. There is a mystic around church leaders.

“They called our governor Alhaji in government house and called him Boko Haram.”
