Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has retired from football to become a disc jockey.

The 35-year-old forward revealed he was quitting the round leather game in favour of a career on the decks, having failed to find a new club after his stint with Saint-Pierroise in the Reunion Premier League. Cisse has been plagued with several injuries throughout his footballing career despite being one of the game’s finest striker during his years with Liverpool.

Cisse told Liverpool Echo: “I loved being a footballer, and so far the ball has been my life.

“I would have liked to continue playing but I must admit today that football is over.

“With the same passion, I will devote myself wholeheartedly to my career as DJ, producer and consultant, as well as developing my clothing brand.

“Thank you for all your support. The adventure continues, another life begins. A lion never dies.”

The Frenchman appears to be gathering momentum in his new line of profession and performed during Mariah Carey’s gig last year. He also owns a clothing brand named ‘Mr Lenoir’.
