Panic as top PDP politician faces alleged death threats for decamping to APC

A former council chairman in Abia state, Dr. Christian Okoli, has accused the People Democratic Party (PDP) of threatening his life and property over his recent defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Okoli has said he has been receiving threatening calls phone calls from unknown persons telling him to return to the PDP.

Vanguard reports that Okoli who was the APC chairmanship candidate for Aba South council area in the December 21 local government polls in the state, said he has been threatened over his decision to challenge the result of the polls at the tribunal.
He alleged that the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) failed to keep its promise of delivering a level playing field for all political parties and connived with the PDP to rob him of victory.
“My life is under threat. Since I joined APC, I have been receiving threatening telephone calls to return to the PDP. Now, they are threatening that I will be killed if I file a petition against my opponent in the December 21 local government election where I ran under the platform of the APC. That I should return back to PDP or lose my life and property.

“My offence is that I have compiled documents and asked my lawyer to file a petition at the election tribunal because I’m convinced I won the chairmanship election.”
Okoli called on the police to come his aid, insisting that as a law abiding citizen, he wants to pursue his case through the process of law and doesn’t want to be killed or harmed for doing what is right.
He said he should be allowed to belong to any political party of his choice and described the threat to his life as injustice
In other news, former ministers under the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) have declared their support for Governor Nyesome Wike as he continues his political battles with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The forum of former ministers described Wike's political travails as “a political siege on Rivers state as masterminded by the APC.”
They asked the governor to stand firm in his defence of democracy, adding that he has being a pillar of democracy and provided the right leadership for the Rivers people.
Those present at the solidarity meeting include former minister of foreign affairs and former Jigawa state governor, Dr Sule Lamido; former minister of education and former Kano state governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and former minister of youth development and former Adamawa state governor, Mr Boni Haruna.
