“Female Footballers Deserve More” – Asisat Oshoala Says
Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala has called on football federations in every country to do more for female football.This comes after the Super falcons forward was named Women’s Player of the Year for the second time.
Oshoala, stated she feels the Nigerian women’s team has been mistreated and disrespected.
The Arsenal ladies star passionately pleaded that African women footballers deserve more.
The 22 year old scooped the award ahead of Cameroon’s Gabrielle Aboudi-Onguene and Ghana’s Elizabeth Addo.
She dedicated the award to all female footballers in Africa.
Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez says it is an honour to be named the African Footballer of the Year after becoming the first Algerian to win the prestigious individual honour.
The 25 year old, beat Gabon skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scooped the prestigious accolade last year, into second place, with Senegal star Sadio Mane taking third place.
The midfielder, played an influential role in the historic Premier League title triumph by Leicester City and was the first African to be named the PFA player of the year.
Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango emerged the African Player of the Year – Based in Africa 2016
He becomes the first goalkeeper to scoop the award designed to reward players who ply their trade on the continent.
