EXCLUSIVE: Fayose faces first major legal suit in 2017

- Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state is now renowned for churning out allegations and criticising the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari

- However, the allegation of a plot to remove him as governor has pitched him against the APC and two former governors

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state may soon be sued by the deputy national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Segun Oni, for alleged defamation of character.

Why Fayose has reduced governance to lies

Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi denied involvement in any plot to sack Fayose

Chief Oni, a former governor of Ekiti state, spoke with NAIJ.com on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in reaction to an allegation by Fayose that he (Oni) and the minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, were being used by the presidency to effect his removal from office.

Fayose alleged that in a letter to Justice Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) that the duo were planning to compromise the judiciary.

He said the new plot was to force the judiciary to go against itself in the tribunal judgement that favoured him as the duly elected governor and which was affirmed by the appellate and Supreme courts.

Oni denied the allegation from Fayose calling a tissue of lies from a man who has a phobia for leaving office.

“I want you to help find out if there is any document in any law court in my name concerning any allegation against Fayose. If you find any, it means he is right and I am wrong. But I know you won’t find anything.

“I am very surprised that the fear of leaving a position of government should not reduce a governor to the level where he would not be telling lies against innocent people anyhow; reckless lies.

“I was a governor in that state and I did not go about accusing people of planning to do things. A governor should not be mind-blind. That position of governor should be protected,” he said.

According to him, Fayose is making a mockery of his position as governor and giving the impression that the holders of the office are liars.

“I never made any allegation in any court, before any judge and if he finds it, he should read it out.

“Depending on how far this thing goes, I may also consider testing the court of law, but let me say clearly that I have not been involved in any act like that.

“Beyond waving it off as a figment of his imagination, I want to say that governors should not be found lying sheepishly,” Oni said.

Earlier, Olayinka Oyebode, the media aide to Dr Fayemi had said he would not want to dignify Fayose who he called a serial petitioner and liar.

“The Bible says: ‘The wicked runeth when no man pursueth’,” he said to buttress Fayose’s action.
