CAF ELECTIONS: Nigeria Can’t Replace Pinnick (Read)

Nigeria can no longer replace Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick from the forthcoming CAF executive committee elections despite clear opposition by the government because deadline for submission of candidature has long passed.

The deadline by CAF for submission of nominations was December 15, 2016, officials informed AfricanFootball.com.

Pinnick submitted his nomination for the CAF executive committee polls without the endorsement of the NFF executive committee.

He also did not get a formal approval from government as other candidates from Nigeria like Aminu Maigari and Ibrahim Galadima got before they contested in the CAF elections.

Last month, fuming Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung had announced the government will set up a committee to recommend “a suitable candidate” for the polls.

The elections are set for March 16 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
