Wike must be punished for ignoring probe panel - APC tells federal government
- APC asked federal government to sanction Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state for refusing to appear before a panel set to probe the state's recent election violence
- Governor Wike who ignored the summon by the panel decided to constitute a similar panel in his state to investigate the incidence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the federal government to sanction the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, over his refusal to appear before the police panel set up to probe the violence that marred the December 10, 2016 rerun elections in the state.
Governor Wike had earlier ignored the summon of a probe panel set by the Nigerian police force to investigate the cause of a serious election violence that erupted during the December 10, election rerun in the state.
APC asks Federal Government to sanction Wike
Rather than attend the panel, the governor constituted a similar panel in his state to probe the election violence.
The APC chairman in Rivers state, Dave Ikanya, has now described Wike’s action as an affront on the federal government which should not be overlooked.

According to Ikanya: “This is a direct affront on federal powers and should be swiftly met with appropriate response by those whose authority he is challenging so as not to embolden others to follow his dangerous example.
“Wike has clearly crossed the line and should be put in his proper place by the Federal Government whose powers he is brazenly challenging.
“Wike’s sole purpose in setting up the kangaroo commission is to ridicule APC leaders and make nonsense of the efforts by the Police to probe and stop further killings in Rivers State.”

Meanwhile, the governor has alleged that security agencies were behind the violence that marred the Rivers state election rerun
He claimed the police high command has arrested all his personal police details who accompanied him to stop the SARS commander from rigging the election in Rivers east senatorial district.
According to him, the police high command is insisting that the policemen should not have accompanied him to stop the SARS commander.
