SAD! LASTMA official beaten to death in the line of duty in Lagos
According to reports, a LASTMA official was beaten to death after some touts and motorcyclists (okada men) attacked him at the Apapa area of Lagos state.
Prior to his death, Mr Surajudeen Bakare was the zonal head of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Apapa, where he had been attacked while on duty on Thursday, December 15.
He was reportedly killed along Point Road, while trying to ensure that the restrictions placed on okada men plying the major roads were upheld. Some of the okada riders had reportedly surrounded him and proceeded to beat him till he died.

An anonymous LASTMA official said:
“It was motorcyclists and touts that attacked him, while he was managing traffic within the axis. In fact, he was recently transferred to Apapa after residents complained that they spend more time in traffic than expected. He was expected to bring his ingenuity to bear on managing traffic within the axis.”
Confirming the incident, the general manager of LASTMA, Bashir Braimah, said Bakare had been on duty when he met his death.
The Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, also confirmed that Bakare was killed during a mob action. She said investigations have also begun and the culprits would be made to face the law.
