JUST IN: PDP defeats APC to win first house of reps seat in Rivers re-run election

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Gogo Tamuno has been announced as the winner of the Okrika Ogu/Bolo federal constituency of Rivers state in the Saturday, December 10 re-run election.

Tamuno’s victory is the first result of the heavily tensed election in the state that has been marred by reports of violence in some parts of the state.

The Cable reports that Okwulehie Ikechukwu who is the returning officer of the federal constituency made the announcement at around 2am on Sunday, December 11.

Tamuno got 11,668 votes to defeat Maureen Tamuno of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 5,995 votes.

The returning officer declared the result at the council hall in Port Harcourt which is the collation centre for Rivers East senatorial district and explained that incidents of violence prevented the announcement at the constituency.

Governor Nyesom Wike has vowed to win the election for the PDP

“I was escorted here by policemen and soldiers. The level of violence in the area was very high.”

In the senatorial district, the PDP is also reported to be leading.

In Ogu/Bolo, PDP secured 4,578 ahead of the APC with got 3,052 votes. In Omuma, PDP got 5,606 votes while the APC secured 3,052 votes.

The PDP secured 457 votes while APC got 212 votes in Okrika.
