JUST IN: Dasuki's trial adjourned due to defendant's ill health

- A Federal Capital Territory High Court has adjourned the trial of former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki to January 2017

- The trial was adjourned due to ill-health of the former director of finance and administration at the Office of the National Security Adviser Salihu Shuaibu

- Dasuki, Shuaibu and many others are facing charges over allegation of misappropriation of $2.1 billion dollars during their tenure at ONSA

Former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki in court with his lawyers

The trial former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki has been adjourned to Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

This incident happened just one month after the former national security adviser lost his father Ibrahim Dasuki.

At the resumed trial today, December 7, the prosecuting counsel Oluwalake Atolagbe informed the court that he had just been served with a medical report of one of the defendant Salihu Shuaibu.

He said the report also confirmed that Shuaibu, a former director of finance and administration at the Office of the National Security Adviser was hospitalized.

Atolagbe said the trial could not proceed in the absence of the defendant and therefore applied for a short adjournment  pending the recovery of the defendant.

Also, counsel to Shuaib Adetayo Adeyemo apologised for his client's absence.

While other counsels involved in the matter did not object to the prayer for short adjournment, the judge over the case Justice Baba Yusuf said since the charge was filed, the second defendant has never missed a court sitting.

In his brief ruling, he granted the request for adjournment.

After consultations between the lawyers, Yusuf moved the case to Wednesday, January 25, 2017 for continuation of trial.

Similarly, a second matter against Dasuki before Justice Peter Affen of the same Federal Capital Territory High Court was also adjourned to Tuesday, January 24, 2017 for mentioning.

The matter also adjourned due to Shuaibu's absence.

Shuaibu is the third defendant on the matter before Justice Affen.

Dasuki, Shuaibu and many other are currently facing trial on allegations of misappropriation of $2.1 billion dollar by the federal government.

The former national security adviser has however remained in detention at the Department of State Services facility in Abuja.
