Ex-governor Orji Kalu faces first major CHALLENGE in APC
- Former governor of Abia state and founder of PPA, Orji Uzor Kalu recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
- Kalu has spent time praising President Muhammadu Buhari and receiving criticisms from people in the south-east for this and other issues
A few days after he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu is facing his first major hurdle of being fully accepted into the political organisation.
Kalu, who has been campaigning for President Muhammadu Buhari recently, received a warning from Prince Paul Ikonne, who has said the ruling party is not for sale.

He asked new entrants including Kalu to learn the ropes and get acquainted with the facts about the party.
Kalu, who founded the Progressives Peoples Party (PPA), recently dumped it and joined the APC, but Prince Ikonne, a governorship candidate of the defunct ACN in 2011 and chieftain of APC in Abia state, said the party is not available to those who stole money meant for presidential campaign in Abia state.

Leadership reports that in a statement by his media adviser, Patrick Nwosu, asked Nigerians to disregard a statement credited to Chief Orji Kalu that Prince Ikonne had begged him secretly.
"We shouldn’t have responded to this cheap blackmail, but for the avoidance of doubt and to put the records straight, what Prince Ikonne Stands for is integrity and dignity and as such still maintains that Orji Kalu’s entrance into APC is nothing to celebrate, and people should stop leaving in past glory.
"We use this medium to warn those who have been using Abia APC to defraud people to desist from it.
"These same people are those who embezzled the money meant for the presidential election in Abia state and collected money from the people in Ukwa (the oil producing area) in the name of securing NDDC appointments for them, which is being spare-headed by Ben Godson.

"Paul Ikonne therefore warns that the All Progressive Congress is not for sale or a platform to defraud people and those involved should desist from it," the statement read.
Prince Ikonne reiterated his belief that the south-east will vote for President Mohammadu Buhari in the 2019 election.
He also called on Nigerians to support the president in his fight against corruption and his quest to fix the country.
