- The APC in Benue state has lost no fewer than 2000 members to the PDP
- The defectors said their reason for dumping the party was because of Governor Ortom’s failed leadership style
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state has suffered a massive loss as no fewer than 2000 of its members defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, December 19.
The defectors were led by former APC stalwarts, Hon. Demenongu Unom and Laha Dzever, Daily Post reports.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors who decided to join the PDP in Vandekiya LGA of the state, Unom said Governor Samuel Ortom’s regime had brought bad luck to the state.

He said they decided to dump their party for the PDP because of Ortom’s failed leadership style.
The defectors were received by Sir Hon John Ngbede, the PDP chairman in the state.
He welcomed them on board on behalf of the former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam.
According to him, the party was currently working hard to settle their differences in order to capture power from the APC in 2019.
Nigerian politicians are known for moving from one party to another. A month ago, an APC chieftain, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed condemned those leaving the party.
He said instead of defecting, they should remain with APC and help solve some of the problems they were currently facing.
