Anxiety in presidency, security agencies ahead of 2019?
- In 2016, Nigerian politicians are already reportedly planning towards the 2019 general election and this is said to be causing anxiety
- The Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies are also reportedly monitoring these politicians and their utterances
Ahead of 2019, there is a level of fear reported in the presidency and among the security agencies in the country, The Sun is reporting.
The report said these politicians, some of whom have the ambition to contest for the presidency, governors and senators are now closely being monitored by the security agencies especially as their utterances are said to be capable of tearing the country apart.
The report quoted an unnamed source at the Department of State Security (DSS) as saying that this was a major problem and that these politicians must be discouraged from making further incisive statements.
“What is giving security agencies grey hairs is the ambition of some prominent politicians. They are more dangerous than Boko Haram.
“They are sharpening their knives and taking other dangerous steps because they want to be president, governor or senator.

“It is a very serious matter; the way to 2019 is already strewn with dangerous weapons. They want to set Nigeria on fire,” the security source allegedly told The Sun adding that some of these utterances were made in private meetings.
“We are concerned because these politicians say one thing in the public and another in private political meetings.
“They want to set this country on fire just because of their ambition,” the senior DSS official said.
“The media should all join hands to stop these politicians from unleashing terror on the country in the name ambition.

“Our challenge is fleeing Boko Haram members. We are arresting them and we will continue to be on their trail. But it is a huge challenge for us at the moment.
“The good thing is Boko Haram is almost history now. We will handle the current challenge effectively and efficiently because the new development is not strange, it was expected. Security agencies are working together on this and it is paying off,” the report quoted the source as saying.
