PDP will bounce back in 2019 - Gulak

Ahmed Gulak says he is confident the PDP will bounce back in 2019.

A former political adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, has expressed the confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party will defeat the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 general election.

Gulak in an interview with Daily Trust maintained that the PDP stands a chance in unseating the APC because it is the only political party in Nigeria that can give the country a sense of direction.

The party chieftain equally noted that the PDP was the only party that can pull Nigeria out of its economic crisis.

Gulak has also dismissed insinuation that the Sheriff-led faction of the PDP is doing the bidding of the APC.

He said: "I have been a very active player in the politics of PDP. If by any imagination, I see any reason to believe that Sheriff is not committed and sincere in the leadership of this party, I will be the first person to say so, take it from me."

He however noted that the leadership tussle in the PDP has affected the fortunes of the party negatively.

Gulak blamed the crisis in the party as the reason why the PDP lost the Edo and Ondo gubernatorial election.

When asked about the rumour that the Makarfi group is likely to form a new party if the courts do not favour it, he admitted that the rumour was rife but said he doesn’t expect them to do that.

“The PDP has given them a lot. Senator Makarfi was governor on PDP platform for eight years and he was senator on the same platform for another eight years and to see him trying to move people out of PDP to another party no matter how small the number is, will be unfortunate. History will judge him on the negative side,” he said.

Meanwhile, politician and businessman, Chief Kenny Martins has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan did not concede victory willingly after the 2015 presidential election.

Martins made the comment during an interview with Daily Sun published on December 24.

He narrated how the then chairman of Federal Road Management Agency, (FERMA), Engineer Jide Adeniyi, helped reach Jonathan for a peace meeting with Obasanjo where an agreement was reached.

Martins said Jonathan was made to promise at the meeting that he would leave power peacefully if he didn't come out victorious.
